Junyang Gai
I am a PhD candidate from Dalian, China. In December 2018, I obtained my Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) from Monash University and Central South University (joint program).
My research focus is to utilise acoustofluidics methods to perform sperm selection to aid assisted reproductive technologies. Male infertility is a global reproductive issue which affects at least 70 million couples per year, several clinical approaches have been developed to tackle it, but their effectiveness is limited by the labour-intensive and time-consuming sperm selection procedures used. Acoustic methods are particularly suitable for biological sorting applications as they can provide precise spatial control of living organism without damaging either the cell membrane or intercellular DNA structure when operated at low intensity. In LMS, I will be looking into developing a rapid, automated, acoustic based method to select healthy sperm. In my personal life, I love travelling, photography, art, literature, and appreciating food and drinks :) |
